Travel and accomodation
Travel
Erlangen is easy to reach by train 😊, car and plane.
Car: Exits Erlangen-Zentrum or Erlangen-Nord from A73 motorway.
Train: ICE-services from Berlin, Leipzig, Erfurt, München.
Frequent S-Bahn (S1), Regionalbahn (RB) and Regionalexpress (RE) from Nürnberg or Bamberg. Get off at Erlangen Hauptbahnhof (Hbf), signposted Erlangen. Do not get off at Erlangen Paul-Gossen-Straße or Erlangen Bruck.
Note that not every ICE-train on the Munich-to-Berlin stops in Erlangen; make sure you book a train that does – otherwise: coming from the North, change at Bamberg; coming from the South change at Nürnberg main station (Hauptbahnhof = Hbf).
Plane: When you arrive at Nuremberg Airport (NUE), you can either take a direct bus (line 30) to Erlangen-Arcaden or take the underground (U2) to Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof and continue by train from there.
You can fly directly to Nuremberg from a number of places (such as Amsterdam or Heathrow). If you have to fly via Frankfurt and especially via Munich, please consider taking a train from there. (Train services from Munich and Frankfurt are very good – so this might be quicker and certainly more environment-friendly.)
Accomodation
In the centre of Erlangen, you will find quite a number of nice hotels (such as Hotel Grauer Wolf, Altmann Stuben, Hotelchen am Theater, Zeitwohnhaus, and many others).
You can also find accommodation in many Gasthäuser in the vicinty which are easy to reach by bus (such as Alter Brunnen in Marloffstein,Schwarzer Adler in Uttenreuth, or Meierei in Bubenreuth).
